Ellyse Perry's Historic First-Ever Six-Wicket Haul in the WPL

In a thrilling encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCB-W) by 7 wickets to secure a spot in the final of the TATA Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024.

Chasing a target of 156 runs, MI-W got off to a solid start as openers Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia put on a 50-run partnership. Matthews continued her impressive form, scoring 70 runs off 48 deliveries, including 7 fours and 3 sixes. Bhatia contributed 35 runs off 27 balls.

RCB-W had a glimmer of hope when they dismissed both Matthews and Bhatia in quick succession. However, Harmanpreet Kaur (27* off 24) and Nilam Bisla (28* off 27) held their nerve to guide MI-W to victory with 6 balls to spare.

Earlier, RCB-W had posted a competitive total of 155/6 thanks to a crucial half-century from skipper Smriti Mandhana. Mandhana scored 62 runs off 48 balls, while Richa Ghosh added 31 runs off 26 deliveries.

Ellyse Perry was the star performer for MI-W with the ball, claiming impressive figures of 6/22 in her four overs. She became the first player in WPL history to achieve a six-wicket haul.

With this victory, MI-W advance to the final, where they will face the winner of the other eliminator match between Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz.
